By creating a new nnfolder virtual server, I have managed to get my directory of files readable in Gnus the way I want. The only problem is that this method alters the mbox files, by adding an X-Gnus-Article-Number header to each article. This stops me from being able to re-download the file and see new messages - trying to do so gets Gnus very confused... I guess this is similar to the issue others have complained of in the newsgroup, that Gnus "owns" all of the files it works with, and having other programs access them is not allowed. Grumble. Is there a way round this? Paul.
