Do you have font like
-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-130-75-75-c-70-iso10646-1?  My Emacs
uses it for Unicode messages.

Unfortunately, non-CVS Emacs cannot always convert from Unicode to
other encodings.

Add to your ~/.emacs:

(codepage-setup 1251)
