The developers cannot guarantee that downgrading works.  For
upgrading, there are conversion functions based on the old and new
Gnus version numbers.

No.

If your mail/news data are important in some way, you should make a
backup of .newsrc*, Mail/ and News/ before upgrading.

Personally, I wouldn't expect any major problems when switching from
Oort Gnus (5.10.*) to No Gnus and back.
