This is only done when fancy splitting, I think.  This is clearly a
Bad Thing.  Gnus should put such mail in the bogus group even for
standard splitting.

And what does Gnus do with such mail when you don't use fancy splitting?  Does
it delete them?  Do they "disappear"?  Is their state "undefined"?  (Whatever
that would mean?)
