On my FreeBSD box, I installed Emacs 21.1/Gnus 5.9. On this Debian
Linux box, I installed Emacs 20.7/Gnus 5.7.
On the FreeBSD box, I have color when reading news via Gnus; On the
Debian one, black and white, no color at all.
Is this expected or am I missing anything such as how to configure the
bash? I'm using the default settings on both boxes. Thanks! :)

Emacs 20 does not do colors on a tty. If you are running on a tty,
this is your answer, I think.
Otherwise, I don't know. Does the variable gnus-visual have the same
value on both machines?
