I was playing with summary line formats, and without realising the
implications of what I was doing, I executed gnus-compile. Bad move. I
now have a compiled form of gnus-summary-line-format in my
.newsrc.eld, and none of my subsequent experiments seemed to work. I
didn't realise what was going on until I did a C-h v, and noticed
"default value: (what I was trying to set), value in this buffer: (the
one compiled into .newsrc.eld)".

I know I can do another gnus-compile to save a new version, but at the
moment, I don't want to. I'm still experimenting. I want changes to
.gnus.el to do the trick.

Is there a way of "undoing" the effects of gnus-compile? The manual
doesn't mention one. In the end, I hand-edited .newsrc.eld, which I'm
sure is *not* the correct thing to do...

Thanks,
Paul.

Could be that it's the only way :-(
