Put this in your .gnus.el :

(setq gnus-large-newsgroup nil)

or customize via the emacs customization interface

M-x customize-variable RET
gnus-large-newsgroup RET

and set to "nil"

But you probably don't want to do this.

Also note that there is gnu.emacs.gnus for these questions.
