In (pardon the expression) Windows, for some reason, it comes out
looking like a sort of mushroom. Has that development been explained?

I am not responsible for drawing that logo, sorry.
Perhaps the gnu head that appears in the Gnus modeline can replace
the Windows desktop icon/logo.
Does anyone know who drew the "mushroom" gnu?
