'C-x m' run the Emacs `compose-mail' function.  Apparently you can
customize it by setting `mail-user-agent' (probably to
'gnus-user-agent), but it sounds from the error message like you're
getting an mh-e buffer rather than a Gnus message buffer.  Try just
typing 'm' from the group buffer to send mail via Gnus.
