Hello,

I am frequently facing the problem, that articles I have read are not
marked as read, when switching Gnus versions, i.e., the read mark
pertains only to a certain Gnus version.

Before going into more detail (emacs-versions, Gnus-versions), I would
like to know, whether this behaviour is common.

If I understand it right, the related marks are stored in the
~/.newsrc.eld file, or am I wrong there?

Greetings
Peter

(info "(gnus) Oort Gnus")

If you have tried Oort (the unstable Gnus branch leading to this
release) but went back to a stable version, be careful when
upgrading to this version. In particular, you will probably want to
remove all `.marks' (nnml) and `.mrk' (nnfolder) files, so that
flags are read from your `.newsrc.eld' instead of from the
`.marks'/`.mrk' file where this release store flags. See a later
entry for more information about marks. Note that downgrading isn't
    save in general.

(info "(gnus) No Gnus")

If you have tried No Gnus (the unstable Gnus branch leading to this
release) but went back to a stable version, be careful when
upgrading to this version. In particular, you will probably want to
remove the `~/News/marks' directory (perhaps selectively), so that
flags are read from your `~/.newsrc.eld' instead of from the stale
marks file, where this release will store flags for nntp. See a
later entry for more information about nntp marks. Note that
    downgrading isn't safe in general.
