Did you try using a mouse?
I usually just right-click on the MIME-button thing displayed in the
email (where it shows MIME-type and filename) and choose whatever I
fancy from the menu - "View interactively", "Save..." or so.
I'm sure there are keyboard shortcuts as well, but I handle attachments
seldom enough that using the mouse is preferable to remembering the
shortcuts.
Where did you look in the manual? Maybe we can improve it.

Er... I do have attachments, but never had problem saving them.
Isn't `o' on the attachment itself enough to save it somewhere?
(Maybe I didn't understand what you need...)

I often try the mouse for things I rarely do. The menus in Gnus are
often quite useful to look through as well when you need a rarely used
functionality.

It is not strange. I usually use `i' and try to enter a relevant index
entry when searching for something. Here the magic word "attachment" is
not indexed in this part of the manual.
After reading it more carefully I don't know if this is a problem of the
documentation (a simple "@cindex attachments" would fix it) or a problem
of `o' not really being designed for the purpose of saving attachments
(but which _can_ do it, eventually.)
Anyway, I think it would be good to fix either the manual or the
keybindings -- Reiner, what do you think?

AFAIU the same index entry cannot point both to "Saving Articles" and
"MIME" because "Emacs-MIME" is a separate manual. So we can have two
"@cindex attachments" but it won't really be the same... and `i' in one
of the two manuals will just jump to the entries defined in *this*
manual.
> That way a 's' would find it just like 'i' does.
Yes. I think a simple "@cindex attachment" in the "Saving Articles"
section would already be an improvement.

I don't understand what the problem is. An index search for
"attachment" or "MIME" brings you to the node explaining a way to save
an attachment (as describe in an earlier posing):

Sorry, my bad. I confused the `o' for saving an article from the
summary buffer and the `o' for saving a MIME part.
But there is still something confusing: while searching for the index
key "attachment" from the Gnus manual, you find these sections:
3.19 MIME Commands
8.21.1 Dired
5.5 Archived Messages
But isn't the most relevant section "Using MIME"?
Same when you search for "attachment" with `s'. Strangely enough, the
"Using MIME" section doesn't have any occurrence of the word attachment.
I guess it might be worth being a bit more explicit here...
