Just a thought. In some projects I use an automatic tool to keep
author information uptodate in each file by synching it with git. (And
also ironing the identation style and stuff like that.)

This must not necessarily be done a each commit, but perhaps once at
the end of year could suffice? Such updates could be clearly marked as
such, and so they wouldn't interact much with the real development.
