Policy is generally not to reproduce symbols that begin with __ unless they are: (1) part of a documented public API, like stdio_ext.h, or (2) not used as an API, but part of the ABI that results from compiling a program against glibc headers. This is the same issue as __secure_getenv, and the glibc folks themselves even have declared that it's not to be used and made a replacement symbol for the public interface. Rich
