Hi,

maybe the layers would be useful for you:

\definelayer[somelayer][doublesided=yes]

\setlayer[somelayer][left][x=<dimen>,y=<dimen>]{e.g. \externalfigure...}
\setlayer[somelayer][right][x=<dimen>,y=<dimen>]{e.g. \externalfigure...}

More you can find in cont-lyr, the mechanism works fine,
