Hello,

After a longish working day I treat myself to a few hours of happy TeXing
on a book that I want to make available for those interested and on the
home PC I ran into an interesting problem:

On the second run, tex stops with a strange complaint, caused by a line in
the .tuo file that has suddenly got some strange characters, displayed in
the .tuo file as ^^M but otherwise invisible in the source file itself.

I seem to remember that a while ago Hans tackled a similar problem but I
forgot how it could be avoided. On the WIN98 system where I originally ran
this source file, nothing like this happened. On This WIN-NT machine at
home, this comes up...

I easily find these "invisible" line-break like characters in the TUO file
so I can search and destroy these in the main source file, but if there's a
better way I'd be interested to hear ;=}}

Here is part of that .TUO file:
