As I wrote earlier today, I have forgotten how to solve the problem of this
message coming on after every TeX run, waiting for me to type "end":

Generating graphcs: metaposting MPJobName
This is metapost, version 0.641 (web2c 7.3.2x)
(mpgraphp.mp)
*

If anyone has any clue how I got into this and how I can get out of it... I
think I remember hunt down some file somewhere that indicates that MP should
do some job but I really don't know which and where.

Groet!

Frans

I will surely report it if the problem goes away and if possible where it
went and what made it go away ;=}}

It doesn't work with the stable context, but it does seem to work with
the beta version:

myhost:3:root texmf# texexec --make --alone metafun

There is one temporarily, let's see if it's still there...

try

ftp://ftp.let.uu.nl/pub/users/Jules.vanWeerden/context.zip

Jules put it there for me so I could take a selection of articles from it for the MAPS publication.

One little problem that I had with this file: when unzipping, you find that every message is one file with the filename identica to
the subject line. This means that some messages have funny characters in the filename like question marks and .. dots which makes
DOS put the file in the root dir (..) or it confuses DOS with the funny characters that are usually not in filenames.

If you could produce an archive that won't lose messages like I had, that would be a great help!

What I did was:

1) make a directory listing of all files/messages that survived the unzip operation
2) have this sorted
3) add TYPE before every line and >>ALL after it
4) run it as a batchfile command
thus creating one file with all visible messages in one consecutive order.

Best regards,

Frans

You may try the following:

texexec --make --alone metafun

Indeed, a real metapost format,

I wanna know if this works for everybody, [see texexec.rme for new entries]

Strange, then is there a line

in your texexec.pl?

Ah, that's in doc, which is never in the search path anyway (since it's not
in texmf/metapost/base). It's the manual to graph.mp. So, we can safely
forget about this name clash. Thanks for the pointer.

Hmm. I've tried the latest beta (about 20 minutes ago) and there is
still the empty mpgraph.mp problem. --nomprun doesn't help

I checked this, but on tex live there is only graph.mp, so i think
mpgraph.mp is a save and non conflicting name.

In most cases i give them extensions like .tmp, but the few mp files have
.mp (and .mpd for tex-mp communication). Underscore is always kind of
special in tex. Until now prefixing with \jobname proved to be ok. BTW,
texexec now also supports suffixing so that one can have multiple output
versions of one input file while context itself knows what the original is.
Yet undocumented.

I don't know how you solved this, but I myself
only generate temporary files whose names start
with an underscore. This avoids (for as far as I
know) name-clashes with other existing things.

Just a thought.

The one that comes with the TETEX distributionn is the
one by John D. Hobby to draw graphs from data in files.

The file involved is the file with runtime graphics that context generates
(mpgraph.mp and mprun.mp). When one adds \protectbufferstrue to the local
cont-sys.tex file, it's named jobname-mpgraph.mp. I wasn't aware of another
mpgraph file being aroun don the system.

This is indeed a problem in the beta you run. I fixed it yesterday. For the
moment you can try --nomprun. It has to do with the fact that I want to
make sure that there is no temp file left and deleting comes down to
open/close which leads to a file with length 0 etc etc. It's fixed now.

Hi Frans,

Do you need this file? If so, have you tried to remove
or rename it? It is part of the standard mpost/(La)TeX
distribution and perhaps you are using the wrong one
(in the current directory). For example, on my system
it is in share/texmf/doc/metapost/base/mpgraph.mp in my
TETEX directory.

Just a thought,

There's a file called mpgraph.mp in the directory where I compile a .tex file using texexec and now after every run of texexec, a
log text comes on screen saying it's metaposting mpgraph.mp and I must enter a acommand at the * or type END.

I didn't have this before and I can't see how I got into this... When I type END every time the respons comes on screen I seem to be
out of trouble but should I do something else to avoid this?
