When you have more graphics in the margin you create a new inmargin
command which always uses the \tbox command for the image.
\setuplayout[backspace=4cm,width=14cm]
\definemargindata[marginfigure][inmargin]
\setupmargindata [marginfigure][command=\tbox]
\starttext
\marginfigure{\externalfigure[warning][width=\leftmarginwidth]}
\input tufte
\stoptext
