Somehow I cannot fetch it but I assume you use the adobe fonts. The best
way to support symbols is to use the getglyph functionality. Attached is a
file that implements the euro set (i had some euro stuff running already so
this is a good moment to move it into the core. 

rename 

  test-eur.tex to symb-eur.tex

enable the symbols with: 

  \usesymbols[eur]

In this approach all alternatives and styles are spported as well as
scaling. I'll check it against berends patch (if he mails me the file). 

I cannot upload new versions of context, since our provider quota is
exceeded.
