Garden unresponsive

Garden unresponsive

Hi,

it seems like a few areas of the garden are somewhat unresponsive.  
These include

texshow
source browser
modules
articles

and perhaps others, too. Any idea what's going on?

Patrick is fully occupied and I'm fully ignorant about unix server
tools. Something is severely broken or something is consuming a lot of
memory; problems have started once we (my fault :) started providing
the minimals. It seems that ruby (rails) server is kind-of-broken as
well, for at least two days. Usually it's the other way around: rails
applications running, wiki down.

Not even "ls" works on the garden at the moment, so it's a bit
difficult to troubleshoot.

I have no clue what rails application are on that server (I am just using
the wiki and am new to everything around here), the only thing I know is
that ruby & rails does not scale very well.

So when looking for causes, you should probably consider the possibility
that the site has just become hugely popular and that this is just causing
too much load. if that is the case, then an easy fix (that does not require
rewriting rails stuff in some other framework) is to buy lots of servers :P

can't you just reboot?

Hello Oliver,

thanks for the report. This is a chain of things that leads to this
error. I'll fix this tonight, so there are several hours of downtime. 

Reboot does not help in this case.
