You could define subsection as a copy from section. \setupsection[section][conversion=numbers,previousnumber=no] \definehead[subsection][section] \setuphead[subsection][style=] I tried to get this effect also with ConTeXt's subhead and setupsection commands but failed to get the desired effect.
