I'm right on top of this stuff, yes. Barbara is trying to get a full &
reliable list of characters, and I am working on fonts to go with this
set of glyphs (more or less in cooperation with the Ulrik and Matthias
from LaTeX's mathfont group).

(1) Taco hs already done a lot on the fonts, actually he's the spider in
this web of unicode math fonts. So, in this respect, context will be ok.

(2) There is a conceptual problem with tex->...ml On the one hand we
want tex's macro engine to expand hig level macros to high level xml, on
the other hand, tex in itself has no knowledge of structure at all.

(3) I'm looking into the possibiliy to add structure to pdf. In
principle thi is no problem (I did some tests). If we also provide the
appropriate plug in ...

(4) When xml is to be the storage format, it makes more sense to use xml
as input too. Therefore context has to understand xml. There are two
ways to go: (1) xml->intermediate tex-> dvi/pdf or (2) xml->dvi/pdf. The
first is already prototyped (I'm working on an example of this.) and
don't be
surprised if some day soon the second alternative is there.

Hi,

since ConTeXt is going to have a AMS module I thought it might be
usefull to
forward this.

To become really usefull, we only need a context2xml converter.
BTW: Is there any xml2eps converter available? More and more programs
start to
use this as file format (e.g. KOffice of KDE).

The complement of math symbols included in Unicode is insufficient to
publish "real" mathematics on the Web, even if browser support were
available. However, with XML gaining ground, the latter seems to be
just a matter of time.

At the American Math Society, we have been trying to tackle the first
problem -- will the symbols be ready when the browsers are -- and we
have now collected several hundred symbols not recognized by Unicode
that we will propose to be added. However, we don't know how all of
these symbols are used, or what they mean, and we're asking for help.

The Web page

    http://www.ams.org/STIX/glyphs/proposal/newsub/challenge.html

contains a selection of these symbols along with questions about them
and a list of the information we need in order to convince the Unicode
Technical Committee (UTC). If you are familiar with the notation used
in scientific publishing -- perhaps you're an author who has written
journal articles or books in math or some related field -- please take
a look at this site and see if you can help.

The UTC meets the first week of December. We must have all documentation
by November 20 in order to prepare our presentation.

The selection of symbols will change weekly until our deadline, so please
plan to visit the site every week through November 20.
