A friend make a schoolguide with msword... and lots of problems.
I would like to show him a context example.
The "chapters" start with a fancy hand-drawn large capital at the left
(available as a jpg or pdf file) with an intro-text to the right of
it:
-------- ere should come an introductary text in
| large| bold, and perhaps a larger font

H

--------
Normal tekst starts here...
I thought that this should work (Context for beginners, page 24):
%language=nl

I'd suggest you fetch a newer context distribution. Your stuff is
quite old now, and there might be a conflict with your (rather new)
pdfetex (the \pdfximage changes in .14 where not yet in the march
context, I think).

I thought I just *had* installed the newest stuff by getting
cont-tmf.zip from the pragma site? Should I look somewhere else?

Hallo Wybo,

But somehow it didn't make it. You email stats:
ConTeXt ver: 1999.3.29 fmt: 1999.12.12 int: dutch mes: dutch
So you have a pretty new format, but the ConTeXt behind is rather old.
Check your directory structure!
Have you had a look at supp-fun.tex ? It also allows you to use dropped
characters (well, not hand-drawn).
Tobias

I don't know how to check at it? With what should it be compared?
My TeX is the recommended version of the TeXLive4 cd.
Then, because I had pdf-problems, Hans told me to install Thanh's
pdftex-linux.zip.
Then I got cont-tmf.zip.
I ran fmtutil --all.
What exactly should be done after a fresh TeXLive4-install to get
ConTeXt, texexec and the pdf-utilities up-to-date?
I think that such information is essential for stupid users like me,
because whenever one asks a question about context on this list, the
solution seems to be in newer versions of context or texexec or pdftex.

I have used that before, but one can probably not drop a character
that is an image?

Context is downward compatible with pdftex 13 but pdftex 14 not upward
compatible with the old context, indeed due to some changes in primitives.
BTW, the primitives are rather fixed now, and the new ones (yet
unpublished) will be supported by context of course (which will lead to
quite interesting things btw.)

There is a certain order in which web2c searches for files. You can try to
locate a file with for instance 'kpathsea cont-en.tex'. The web2c manual
explains this (as well as the 4tex manual, which has a large section on
web2c). Once you know how it works, you can benefit from things like local
tex setups and so. There are also debug features in the web2c binaries,
