I therefore installed the TeXlive CD in winnt by running install.exe in the root of the CD. This works without any problems. If you have the installed bin-directory in your path you can run immediately run context and windvi. You are then in a Web2c environment. If you use 4Dos, you can make things almost Unix-like (except for the speed of course) by defining aliases. I also tried: tex \&cont-en -progname=context This starts with some standard messages, but then stops with an asterisk prompt.
