Hi Wlodek (and others),

I changed texexec a bit, it the sense that it now uses its own file
cont-fmt.tex instead of adapting cont-usr.tex. The previous approach was
not safe with regards to using fmtutil. (One can bypass fmtutil by adding
the switch --alone).

When things are set up ok,

  texexec --make --lang=pl --bodyfont=plr en

will generate a polish format

  texexec --make --lang=it,pl en

will give you a format file that defaults to italian, has polish patterns
too (in addition to the default ones), and uses computer modern fonts.

The second change concerns commans that are sensitive to / which is active
in polish. I adapted the choice|/|of|/|words macros as well as the file
loading macros and the figure inclusion macros (figures are search on more
than one path.

It's all in the new beta, so that the polish users can do some testing,

Hans

What to do with math? I prefer / to be just a / in math.

Polish formats define `//' to be `/' in math too.
For example, when using `/' notation, we write $4//2=2, 4//a=b$
Except above, there are two reasons for using double slashes:

1. they make possible to automatically re-encode between polish
text which uses `/' notation and, for example, Latin-2

2. what about $4//2=2\quad\hbox{oczywi/scie}$

| When things are set up ok,
|
| texexec --make --lang=pl --bodyfont=plr en

above command and

texexec --alone --make --lang=pl --bodyfont=plr en

does not work.

The first command does not load font-plr.tex, and
the latter produces:

language : no hyphenations nl for nl (n=7)
[popping catcode / to 13]
bodyfont : variant cmr is loaded
(/usr/TeX/texmf/tex/context/base/font-plr.tex
(/usr/TeX/texmf/tex/context/base/font-cmr.tex))

which, I guess, means that plr fonts are shadowed
by cmr fonts.

This could be checked by running
  texexec cc.tex
where cc.tex contains
-------------------------
% --translate-file=il2-pl

\starttext
some text
\stopttext
-------------------------
and running `dvips cc -o' which loads cmr10.pfb instead of plr10.pfb.

Also `texexec --listing whatever.txt' does not use pltt10 font
(the English default cmtt10 is used).

Fortunately `texexec --make --language=pl --bodyfont=plr en' works.

When I was writing the previous email I was thinking that the
generated format was placed in ../texmf/web2c.
That was not correct. With the current version of texexec
cont-en.efmt is written into home directory
(at least under Linux).

Under windows too. At least in MikTeX distribution -- they should
be moved to another directory, or perltk directory should be added
to corresponding section in miktex.ini file.
