After my upgrade to 2001.7.11 I get the unaccented characters instead
of the accented ones that I used to get. I tried some changes, but
nothing I came up with fixed it.
Any ideas, what I'm missing?

Answering my own question:
switching to aer helped, i.e.
\setupbodyfont[aer]
