Hi folks!

I'm frustrated. There's nothing other left to tell to the people as "RTFM".

After a longer abstinence I just compiled the latest pdfTeX, installed the
latest ConTeXt and had a look at the docs - and it's everything there.
All I could tell to beginners is "read the docs, they're perfect".

Should I really present only a translation?
(Patrick, what do you think?)

Well, why not ask here what people want to see and hear and build a big
session around it with multiple speakers?

At first I asked in TeX-D-L whether there was any interest.
My plan was to give a low-level introduction with some hints, what can be
done easily and some other hints for prepress.
Patrick agreed to tell about XML.

Shure, we can hold our plans, and it would be a pleasure to make up a whole
"ConTeXt day" in Erlangen together.
But I got the impression that there's no real need for my low-level intro
because of the fitting docs...

Today I got the latest DTK (DANTE magazine). After reading some of the
articles that are of no great use for people who can read existing docs I got
the feeling that I should try it anyway.

Ok, let's go - who likes to join us? :-)

ok, but maybe an quick overview of what is there is nice

Why not do an inventory on what people want to hear?

I think, people want to hear a "how to move from LaTeX", so I'll start with
the basically different concept of ConTeXt.

I trust in you! ;-)

And I hope on some spare time whilst my winter holidays...

Hallo Henning and others,

well, that is only partially true. My experience is that you have to have a
good overview about context in order to know what can be done. And,
compared to latex, there is a different kind of thinking: compare
redefining the layout of sections in context and latex. So it would be nice
to tell the people "these things can be done in context easily and this is
the way it is accomplished". I don't think it is necessary to explain the
exact details. Perhaps you can have a look at http://levana.de/context to
see what I mean. I once had a context presentation at a local linux user
group (and a local TeX group) and just showed them some exaples.

well, a beginner will not know that it is good to use a perl script to
start TeX. And tetex is not really prepared to do this out of the box.

No, "just" an overview. I think you did a nice job in Rosenheim at the TeX
conference, where you did not go into detail too much but presented a good
overview about the problems of publishing in general. That was really
valuable.

Thank you.
But I think I should point out some details of installation - especially with
SuSE's teTeX...
