You should compile a newer edition of pdfTeX, too.
My SuSE 7.1 PPC had a 13d version, and you should use >14f with a recent 
ConTeXt.

A usual problem with SuSE is that the old perl scripts are in some /bin 
directory and don't get overwritten. I deleted them and set symlinks to 
/context/perltk/*.pl at the same location.

Further there's a oldfashioned fmtutil.cnf, where for ConTeXt some 
*.ini-files are mentioned where should be *.tex. (You may only change the 
endings, and check if the lines are not commented.)
