Ahoi!
I defined a header line in my environment with
\setupbackgrounds[header][text][frame=off,bottomframe=on]
but would like to switch it off in makeup.
But no attempt works. (bottomframe=off, state=stop...)
Any hints?

Have you enclosed the makeup within \startstandardmakeup?

Hallo Hraban,
> -- how can I switch *off* header frames?
I use the same \setupbackgrounds as you do and it works here. I use
currently the latest stable version of Context.
\define[1]\kapitelpage
{\startstandardmakeup[doublesided=no,page=right]
\setupbackgrounds
[header]
[text]
[frame=off]
\title{#1}
\stopstandardmakeup}
> -- is there a better way for placing a text block at the bottom that

Never looked into it. I use \vfill
Best regards Willi

Then it's maybe a problem of the latest beta (I run it on both Windows and
Linux).
Today I tried some more: Every \setupbackgrounds after a \startstandardmakeup
shows no effect -- I tried defining other backgrounds, colors etc.
(Thank you others for the many llll, it's like welsh... ;-)

to quote GB: \vfilll (three l's) is pretty strong
since you're a 'fine point of typo' designer: occasionally you want to get
rid of the depth of the line:
\vfilll
great
\vskip-\prevdepth (optionally add \vskip\strutdepth)
