Ah, grey's easy, since these blocks are get most of their juice from the frame mechanisms: \setupcolors[state=start] \setupfloat [intermezzo] [leftmargindistance=-\outercombitotal, rightmargindistance=-\outercombitotal, default={outer,high}, background=color, backgroundcolor=gray] (High seems a little better for the aesthetics of the block placement.)
