However, I am not for a gui. A gui is hard to write and maintain, and given all the different platforms out there, including older linux distributions with old libraries, it most likey wouldn't run on all of them. I think you can achieve the same thing with a well-written shell script, which can be interactive and can test all sorts of variables. Wouldn't a shell script do the job you want? I mean, imagine the best, most fancy gui you can, one that does everything you want with fonts. Now just imagine the same program in an ugly shell that would do the same thing, with the same interaction, and wouldn't that do the trick?
