OK, I understand, but anyway copy/pasting may be sometimes the good way for typing characters you don't have on keyboard. I made wikipage for this purpose: wiki.contextgarden.net/Symbols/utf8
It seems like you use linux, try pressing <shift><ctrl>u2013 to type 'en dash' nearly anywhere.
