The similarities are in the line-breaking and paragraph-shaping algorithms, macro expansion, etc., not in the way the layout of the text is controlled (text width, margins and the like). In fact, the latter even is one of the areas where ConTeXt is *totally different* from LaTeX since, as was hinted, LaTeX never was considered when ConTeXt started.
