Hi,
The following used to work:
\startMPrun{foo}
beginfig(1);
fill fullcircle scaled 1cm;
endfig;

\externalfigure [mprun:foo.1] [width=4cm]

now I get:

It might have something to do with the recent changes concerning the
graphics search path, but that's just a blind guess.
