[mtx-package] merger output ambiguous

Hi Hans,

merging produces invalid output when concatenating a numbers into
a string. Example:

    return 42 .. "foo"

which is merged into:

    return 42.."foo"
             ^

where the dot after the number leads to a “malformed number”
error. (Iirc there was a thread on lua-l about this not long
ago.)
