What's the difference between cloning and copying, as in the following file?

I see no difference, and I can't think of a situation where I would want
either of these behaviors. Why is it that when I click in ex-q, the fields
ex-a,ex-b,ex-c, ex-z, ex-y, and ex-z revert to nop-a?
