The next release will offer the key:
converteerfile | convertfile | konvertieredatei
used in \setupreferences[convertfile=yes|no]
When set to yes (=default) the filenames in cross file refs will be uppercased (a la ISO9660). For unix users, where acrobat is not clever enough to try both upper and lowercase names, users can set this variable to 'no'. (It's set to yes by default because of (1) upward compatibility and (2) to be in the save side when making cdroms).
(case sensitivity has its price)
