Is it just a matter of >try-and-see, or can you recommend some preset variable(s) for the purpose? \externalfigure[name][width=\textwidth,height=\textheight] \externalfigure[name][factor=max,width=\textwidth,height=\textheight] \externalfigure[name][hfactor=max] etc etc factors are multiples of bodyfontsize. When set to 'max' (or 'fit' when used as float) they will scale to the max, but limit the dimensions to the specified width and/or height. Providing width and height only is ok, but then you use the aspect ratio.
