Now, say that you redefine: 

  \def\obeyedspace{\ifprocessingverbatim\hbox{ }\else\space\fi}

and set

  \setupregister[index][expansion=yes]

and define a command like: 

  \def\Index{\bgroup\ignorelines\doIndex}

  \def\doIndex#1{\index{#1}\egroup}

then you can say: 

  \startlines
  Why is Frans torturing ConTeXt so much\Index{torture 
  test}.
  \stoplines

Of course you can also decide to put the whole index entry on one line,
