* \type does not respect relative size?

Well, I have this suspect with a command like

{\tfx text text \type{whatever} more text more text}.

All the text comes out with a "small" size, but not the \type argument. Am I doing something wrong?

Say: \setuptype[style=\tt\tf] and \setuptyping[style=\tt\tf]]

slower (esp on my old machine); i now have made it default for \type not
\typing
