Ah, but you didn't tell that you used width=fit -) When you use width=fit, the margins and edges (one level) play a role. Although not 100% perfect, in that case the width is set to a dimension that makes sure that the layout is symmetrical, for instance the backspace-leftmargin is added to the right. This works ok for simple layouts, otherwise you need to specify 'm all. It may help to explicitly set left/right margins/edges to 0pt. The idea behind this is that in a quick and dirty screen doc case: (1) the backspace is slightly larger tnan the margin (2) you want to maximize screen usage (3) edges should show up, so become non virtual (4) margins are used as margins and edges for menus esp (4) is important since that permits a paper version to use margins and a screen doc to have non interfering menus in edges. So, only use 'fit' in simple cases, otherwise, use middle or just specify the dimensions.
