\doflushfloats, but better is to add to cont-new.tex:
\def\placefloats%
{\doflushfloats}
so that from now on \placefloats will be available, does this sound ok?
You can postpone any content with
\startpostponing
whatever
\stoppostponing
[that one is nice to gets things on the next page]
