So, in this respect, context will be ok. (2) There is a conceptual problem with tex->...ml On the one hand we want tex's macro engine to expand hig level macros to high level xml, on the other hand, tex in itself has no knowledge of structure at all. (3) I'm looking into the possibiliy to add structure to pdf. In principle thi is no problem (I did some tests). If we also provide the appropriate plug in ... (4) When xml is to be the storage format, it makes more sense to use xml as input too. Therefore context has to understand xml. There are two ways to go: (1) xml->intermediate tex-> dvi/pdf or (2) xml->dvi/pdf. The first is already prototyped (I'm working on an example of this.) and don't be surprised if some day soon the second alternative is there.
