'German Double s' character trouble

Hello,

using context 1999-09-30 I encounter the following problem with the
german-double-s character (ß) (I hope it shows up correctly in your
email, it should look similiar to an upright beta):

Using [win] as encoding, ß shows up as dotless i.
Using [ans] as encoding, ß shows up as SS.
Saying \ss like in plain TeX, context switches to sanserif instead of
displaying any character.
Saying \3 like in german.sty, context complains about an unknown
command.

My setup is like shown below:

\useencoding[win]
\setupoutput[pdftex]
\setupbodyfont[ber, ptm]
\de
\usemapping[texnansi]
some text containing 'ß' 

And, if I remember correctly, the first alternative once worked with an 
elder context version.
Thanks in advance for any hints.

I had this exact problem a while ago in Unix and can't for the life of me
find where it is coming from.  It works correctly without the berry option
though.  If you have the PostScript fonts with their Adobe names, you can
use

\setupbodyfont[ptm]

and ß and \ss will both work corretly.  This is a temporary measure til I
or someone else finds the cause...

In context it's \SS

you can add: \def\3{\SS} to your local cont-sys.tex 

But, in german mode, tobias long ago convinced me to support the "s
syntax. So, you can use the for germans normal " convention. This even
works ok for bookmarks and so ("u -> u umlaut).

This is very platform dependant. You can try: \useencoding[ibm]
