Ha, you got me. The tabulate does a preroll, and so in the first pass it
registers the field.
Remind me to solve this (I have to add the trialrun switch).
Quick hack: \newbox\MyBox \MyBox{\field[...]} outside and \copy\MyBox
inside the table.
