Hi all,
Berend asked if I had, after generating the formats, copied them to
$TEXMF/web2c. Of course I hadn't :-/. After doing so the error message
still pops up. Apparently it loads a format file named cont-en.efmt.
Does it have to do with the fact that etex runs underneath?

When I rename the *.efmt file cont-en sulks that it won't find it.
When I keep it it comes down with the error message.

Up to now I have found the minstall.pdf description file. I came as far
as to try and generate the formats via 'texexec --make en', but textexex
or rather fmtutil prints an error message:

fmtutil: format `cont-en' not available.

That's odd; I thought the program is there to generate it.

Another day and still confused.

Johannes

Hallo Johannes,

> fmtutil: format `cont-en' not available.
This might be due to the missing cont-en.ini in
/usr/share/texmf/tex/context/config, which Thomas Esser added. (They
contain a \input cont-en.tex\input.)

Tobias

PS: If everything fails -- I think we are near the solution -- you can
still try tetex@informatik.uni-hannover.de for hints. teTeX 1.0.6 which
you use is still reasonable new (current is 1.0.7 which contains only an
updated texmf), so you don't need to update your binaries. (Except you
really want to use pdftex 0.14f-pre or so, 0.13d is rather old, but
usually it works. Note: you cannot make a drop-in replacement of the
binary, since they are usually compiled with the path /usr/local/tetex
instead of /usr/share/texmf so you would need to set the TEXMF
environment variable).
