Tobias PS: If everything fails -- I think we are near the solution -- you can still try tetex@informatik.uni-hannover.de for hints. teTeX 1.0.6 which you use is still reasonable new (current is 1.0.7 which contains only an updated texmf), so you don't need to update your binaries. (Except you really want to use pdftex 0.14f-pre or so, 0.13d is rather old, but usually it works. Note: you cannot make a drop-in replacement of the binary, since they are usually compiled with the path /usr/local/tetex instead of /usr/share/texmf so you would need to set the TEXMF environment variable).
