There is, that is, if you believe in miracles. Key in: \setupfootnotes[way=bypage] \starttext test \footnote{test} test \page test \footnote{test} test \page test \footnote{test} test \page \stoptext run texexec with your eyes closed, count to 89 and view the file. >(There are not so much footnotes in "my" book, and the redactors don't >want numbers...) There is a rather advanced system of conversion available. In the english beta chapter on layout one can read: \setupfootnotes[conversion=set 3] as a way to change the conversion. One can define his/her own conversion sets (will be in another chapter). Set 3 is for example defined as: \defineconversion [set 3] [\mathematics{\star}, \mathematics{\star\star}, \mathematics{\star\star\star}, \mathematics{\ddagger}, \mathematics{\ddagger\ddagger}, \mathematics{\ddagger\ddagger\ddagger}, \mathematics{\P}, \mathematics{\P\P}, \mathematics{\P\P\P}, \mathematics{\S}, \mathematics{\S\S}, \mathematics{\S\S\S}, \mathematics{\ast}, \mathematics{\ast\ast}, \mathematics{\ast\ast\ast}] See core-con.tex (conversion) for more examples. In a similar way you can define your own sets, conversions, symbols and so on. [there are also symbol sets] >If it worked: Could I change this behaviour for each chapter? (Saying, >there'd be one chapter with many footnotes) Sure.
