Hi Hans,
you're experimental translate module for MkIV is very nice and
makes it for german users very easy to avoid ligatures in certain
words. What I don't like is to that I have to escape the bar
in the replacement text, can't you take care of this in the
\translateinput macro itself and save the text without expansion.

\translateinput[Auflage][Auf\string|*\string|lage]
\starttext
Auflage
\enableinputtranslation
