Hello happy contextuals,

is there someone out there knowing about a nice ide for ConTeXt? I mostly
need some syntax highligthing so an AucTeX with ConTeXt mode will be
enough. Unfortunately the context.el is not able to run on (my?) XEmacs
(it looks like it is bound to Emacs).

If there is nothing like XEmacs + AucTeX + refTeX + speedbar I will think
about some other editors. Or is someone there who can point me to some
information necessary to incorporate ConTeXt mode to AucTeX?

Thank you,
Uwe

I don't know xemacs. Did you use the latest context.el? What kind of
errors do you get?

reftex + speedbar is very, very latex specific.

I'm working with N-Edit on Linux; but it does only general TeX highlighting,
no more help.
On MacOS I'm using Alpha -- it's great with OzTeX, but does only LaTeX.
But Alpha is a capable editor, based on TCL/TK, and also available for
Linux. (I was just to lazy to look after it, since N-Edit does fit most
of my needs.)

I tried some TeX helper apps, but they had too much "hard coded" (.dvi etc.)

AFAICS highlighting and commands like M-q, C-c C-o and C-c C-e ar working
but
- imenu (maybe because XEmacs has a different menu package)
- outline-minor-mode

and because I mostly need the menu, the conclusion was "it doesn't work for
me". I have looked into it, but I am not a great lisp hacker, so ...

BTW: is it possible to go from an error in the log directly to the right
place in the document?

Uuuuh, really? I didn't looked into it, but a structured listing of the
current document and some help by setting references (buttons and so on!)
would be very nice.

Anyway, if there is no other system out there in the wilderness, I will
start looking deeper into the problems I found and maybe some day there
will be some answer to the question ;-))

Hmm, perhaps try:

	http://www.pobox.com/~berend

again. I've uploaded a slightly newer version.

No, this is a wish :-)

It is. reftex is code that has grown, but like a tree that someone had
forgotten to cut, at least that's the way it looked to me. I've looked
into it a few years ago. But I agree, something like reftex would be nice.

Not that hard, since I let context spit out file info. I must have some
parsing code somewhere [since our editor supports is], but i must admit
that i never use it -)

Uwe probably meant clicking on the error and going to the source
document. This is almost standard functionality in emacs, but I've never
looked into it.

What editor did you use? And do you know of some context awave editors
(unix based) out there?

Tried it, but still no menu.

And even worse:
Auctex is disturbed after loading context.el. So this was the main reason
I stated context.el as "not of use for me". And this interaction between
(load "context") and AucTeX lies behind my possibilities as a lisp
programmer ...

We use an editor that we wrote ourselves long ago [in spite is what is
around today, we still use it because it provides us fast file browsing, it
understands the context project structure, it can handle [think of old dos
days] many huge files, does syntax highlighting, real time spell checking,
etc.]. It's written in modula 2 but i made a perl tk version too. Will be
available some day [actually it is but yet unfinished].
