I use both RedHat 7.1 on one laptop and Mandrake 8 on the other one. So far, most of my use of ConTeXt has been on the laptop with RedHat. It works beutifully. And the graphics, enhanced with the gimp, look nicer than they would on the same laptop with windows. Window Manager I use: enlightenment. It is lean (compared to KDE and Gnome). I did not install KDE (it is too windowish for my taste) but did install Gnome. So, altough I do not run Gnome as the base wm (enlightenment looks nicer and is faster), I may at will use all the goodies Gnome comes equipped with. Before switching to windows (which would be a real loss), I would suggest you to try RedHat 7.1 and/or Mandrake 8. The tetex on both comes with ConTeXt, and, for me at least, it has worked very smoothly. Cheers, Andres Villaveces.
